By recognizing that we are life, that life is us... there is no separation. The ground is one. The foremost tool for such recognition is meditation.

Evolution happens. Attaching value is judgmental. How do you measure value? Life is a gift. Be truly grateful. Do nothing. If you must do something, be positive.

how do we evolve our value for the sacredness of life?

I believe it starts with awareness. Awareness of our own sacredness which then lends itself to be aware of the sacredness in & of others. It is funny, because for me, when I honor the sacredness in others (which just seems easier than to honor the sacredness in me), I can't help but to connect to the sacredness in me. I think that evolving the value for it then comes with that "moment by moment" awareness, then consciously choose to value the sacredness in life, in people, in ourselves. Namaste is a great mantra for me all on levels.

The Inward Evolution

I have found that I hold Life more sacred when I recongnize that it all begins from within. When we let go of the power of the mind; release attachment to our stories, we are free to connect to that vibrational flow that surrounds us all, and fills us full with peace and love. Once we experience that place, we can also recognize it all around us.

I'm reminded of a children's book that illustrates the power of electricity, and compares it to the power of Love. It's around us all the time...we cannot see it, and we need to "plug in" in order to tap into it's power. Once we "plug in" to our hearts, we can recognize that regardless of someone's differences, we know that the same love also flows in and around them, too.

Evolving our value for life….a response based on my own experience, is to live life close to our deepest promptings and inner guidance as to what is of value, real value, to us. If it is family life that is of “real value”, then honor family life, if it is learning, then honor learning, if it is saving the earth, then safe the earth! In this way we will be true to that which is truly ours. Ultimately, honoring and loving our own life will lead to honoring and loving each life. This seems to come out of a play between inner desires and reactions and outer opportunity and openings…in this way we will be valuing our own life, a first step in valuing all life. Each time we invest time and energy in what we perceive to be an honorable value by investing in positive force, we build our value for life, all life. This path can lead to valuing the sacred in one’s own life through daily spiritual practice or meditation which is inclusive in focus rather than exclusive in focus. Meditation helps us to trust our inner guidance and live a life valuing our truly sacred nature and then, the sacredness of all.

Interconnectedness

I'd like to build on what Martin says. A small way I've found to build the realization of interconnectedness is to notice where our everyday things come from. For example, I'm wearing a shirt from Sri Lanka, pants from Cambodia, shoes from China and for breakfast I had a bagel from California with cheese from Argentina!

Sacredness here, there, and even over there?!

My own practice of evolving the value for the sacredness of life has changed over the years. From a practice that was primarily inner based; introspection, meditation and solitude to one that has now increasingly included my outward experience with others. In short, my outer experience of sacredness did not grow until I was able to accept and Love myself. Only then was I able to be more fully present to others, and in that space, share with another the sacred connection we all have.

Finally, modern society has become so fast paced, that we have limited our ability to recognize the sacredness in much of anything. Much of the fast pace is just conditioned habitual mind chatter, and so having the ability to step out of this modern mind set and taking control works wonders. This has really magnified my experiencing the sacredness in others in the most ordinary of places.

I think there are many different ways to develop a sense of sacredness of life...one exercise I have done and do from time to time is to contemplate how interconnected I am to all and everything around me and...and how the way I am affects everything....pretty soon I realize how deep and farreaching our connections goes and this in turn makes me more aware of how I choose to be in my day to day life.

Having a meditation teacher and living under his guidance for many years, and still continue my connection to this day, I honor myself and thus honor all life. His guidance is invaluable.

be still and know

We can evolve our value for life only by first fully experiencing life. Otherwise, it is all concepts. So the first step is to "be still and know".... and in that stillness, with our thoughts and stories turned aside, we can be fully present and truly experience life. Value for it then comes automatically as -- in that moment of stillness -- sacredness, love, and delight fills our being so completely that we know, beyond words, that this is ultimate value and fulfillment.

Life is another word for Source... the unity in all diversity. We all share life. Life empowers all and everything. In life, we are one.
