Merriam-Webster defines sacredness as "protected against abuse." Life is NOT protected against abuse. In fact, there is much abuse in this world. "Life is Sacred" becomes an affirmation. Life is as it is....sacred, non-sacred. The truth is we want to be protected against abuse. We want life to be sacred. We want it to be other than it is.

Life is as it is; there is nothing other than Life, their is nothing greater than life therefore Life is all and everything - the ground of all being, Source or God.

Wikipedia defines 'sacred' considered worthy of spiritual respect or devotion; or inspiring awe or reverence' - an appropriate response to life.

We know life is sacred when someone we love dearly is taken from us or almost taken from us. There are no thoughts or evaluations or judgments as to whether life is sacred. We know it in every cell of our being.

It has been evident as always. Those who do not respect life as sacred, have had ways and means to be proven wrong.
They have either suffered the consequences, as in being realised that , if life is not respected, it will not let you live in peace.
Life is such a wonderful thing to have been bestowed on us.
When I was interacting with the cancer patients during my dad's treatment, i realised how wonderful life is and how much value and sacredness it holds for those who see it moving out of their hands....
so pls learn to be humble within u and to all others.

To say life is sacred denotes a certain experience and perspective. It is as well possible
to come from "life is cheap etc".Looking at history (and also today) we can easily see this perspective in action. Only when we connect with our hearts, when we can see the same life in everybody, no matter their "strange" behavior or beliefs, will the experience of life as sacred become real for us.

Great question!

I know life is sacred because my father taught me so in a most poignant episode when I was about six years old. We were walking along the banks of stream near our home, we called it a “creek” and we were walking “down the creek”. I spotted a daddy long legs spider walking across our sandy path, startled and frightened, I crushed it with my shoe. He said, “oh, no, that was a daddy long legs spider, he wasn’t hurting anything, he has a family, just like you do and his babies were waiting for him to come home with food and to be with them.” Through this story of the “daddy long legs family”, my father went on to explain the interconnectedness of all life which demanded our respect. When I realized what I had done, I dissolved into tears and fell to the ground in deepest remorse. I cried, ashamed of my brutal behavior, but I got the point and to this day, carefully lift to safety the many daddy long legs spiders who share my forest home. Life is sacred because it supports the expression of empathy, creativity and relationship!
To me, life is sacred in every form as an expression of Consciousness experiencing itself. The sublimity of life gives proof of a Divine essence. Not caused, rather granted, to all of us who walk, crawl or grow upon the earth and fly through the skies.

Motherhood was my first lesson in the sacredness of life. Here was a tiny little precious part of me that I conceived, I nurtured in my belly and I gave birth to. A true first lesson about love, oneness, compassion and gratitude. AS time went on and my child grew I began to realize not only my child was sacred but every mothers child was, even the one that grow up to be the terrorists.

Everything is Sacred and nothing is Sacred. And that includes Life. For how would I know what Sacred is if I never experienced Life as not Sacred. Life is in the heart, the most Sacred of all places. And when I breath Life into the heart than YES it can not help but be anything but Sacred. So why is Life Sacred? Maybe because I notice it is.

I was taught as a Christian that anything Sacred was in the realm of God, not in the realm of humans. All my Life, this never worked for me because my experience has been that Life is Sacred. How can anyone look at the magic of seeds popping out of the Earth into plant form, or humans being born into human form, or the seasons of the Earth come and go, or the evening starry sky and say that none of this is Sacred? Rather than seeing a separation of mundane life and Divine God, I see Sacred Life as a fabric sewn with both the threads of mundane daily existence and the gold threads of the Divine. This is the clothing I wear as this physical body and this is the world that I live in.

Life is the unifying principle in humanity. In the life force that empowers us, we are all one.
