Purpose & History

Purpose

Our purpose is to inspire and encourage the conversation about oneness and the sacredness of life.

It's not about what you can do - it's about who you can be.

We believe that to counter-balance terrorism in all forms requires people of all ages and backgrounds to understand that all life is sacred. From the poorest and most remote villages of developing countries to the busy highways in our cities, we share a common intention – to honor the sacredness of life in ourselves and in each other regardless of race, religion, gender or age.

Our key message is that life is sacred because it is life itself that we all share. It is the simple truth that far too many people today are influenced by a prevailing negative regard for human life, including their own. When we honor the sacredness of life, we are living with love, compassion and forgiveness.

History

One Life Alliance was founded in November 2009 in response to the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India on 26/11 in 2008. Master Charles Cannon, founder and spiritual director of the Synchronicity Foundation for Modern Spirituality, was leading a meditation retreat in Mumbai with a group of friends and community members from all over the world. A group of terrorists struck Mumbai city and one of their targets was the Oberoi Hotel where Master Charles and the Synchronicity group were staying. Kia’s husband and daughter, Alan and Naomi, were in the hotel restaurant along with a several Synchronicity community members on the tour when two gunmen stormed in. Alan and Naomi were shot and killed and three others from the group were wounded. Master Charles Cannon was barricaded in a smoke-filled hotel room twelve floors above them while the terrorists roamed the hotel setting fire to each floor and shooting people.

Master Charles Cannon and Kia Scherr publicly forgave the terrorists and moved swiftly to create One Life Alliance as a response to the need for a better understanding between all people about the sacredness of all life.
